The Commission on Higher Education Regional Office 10 (CHEDRO 10), through the Council of Deans for Engineering Education – Region 10 (CODEE-10), conducted an online forum, entitled “Face to Face Classes: Ready Ka Na Ba?” on May 17, 2022 at 1:00 pm via Zoom Video Conferencing. The activity which was live-streamed using the council’s Facebook Page was part of the CHED’s 2nd National Higher Education Day and the 28th CHED Founding Anniversary from May 16-20, 2022.

The CODEE-10 President, Dr. Hercules R. Cascon, the Dean of the College of Engineering of Xavier University–Ateneo de Cagayan welcomed the participants. He emphasized that the issuance of guidelines and circulars by CHED and the Department of Health on the conduct of face-to-face workshops, laboratory, thesis, seminars, and OJT classes would pave the way to providing the best engineering education possible since there are engineering learning outcomes that cannot be achieved through online teaching only.

In his inspirational message, the CHEDRO 10 Regional Director, Dr. Freddie T. Bernal, CESO III, gave assurance of his and CHEDRO 10’s full support of the endeavors of the council. He stressed that the sharing of experiences and best practices of the different speakers from different higher education institutions (HEIs) in the delivery of curricular and non-curricular activities will provide insights and relevant ideas towards ensuring and sustaining the delivery of quality engineering and technology education in the gradual re-opening of campuses using limited face-to-face classes.

The forum, which was moderated by Engr. Rey M. Lagrada, the Dean of the College of Engineering and Computer Science of North Central Mindanao College, also featured the following topics: Limited Face-to-Face Learning Preparation, discussed by Dr. Loryliza D. Bulay-og, Dean of the College of Engineering and Architecture of the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (USTP)-Cagayan de Oro Campus; Blended Laboratory Classes, presented by Dr. Hercules R. Cascon ; On-the-Job Training, presented by Dr. Noel R. Estoperez, dean of the College of Engineering and Technology of the Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology; and  Face-to-Face Midterm Examination, discussed by Dr. Vera Karla S. Caingles, special assistant to the Dean of the College of Engineering and Architecture of USTP-Cagayan de Oro.

Engr. Elmer C. Lopez, the CHEDRO 10 Supervisor-in-charge of the Engineering and Technology Programs gave the closing remarks.  The forum, intended for the engineering faculty and staff, students, and other stakeholders, was significantly participated by CHEDRO 10 personnel, CODEE 10 officers and members, and representatives from HEIs of Region 10.
